In loving memory of Prof. Dr. Frédéric Perrier

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frédéric Perrier. Frédéric died unexpectedly last week in France and was only 63 years old. He was a member of the board of the NAG foundation since its existence.

Nicole Thakuri-Wick met Frederic in October of 1992 in Bouddha Nepal. He was going in the morning at 5 am around the area and was taking street kids for breakfast. Nicole asked him if she could join. He was sceptical at first but agreed. With that, a 32 year friendship started, and so did NAG. Frédéric as part of NAG from the beginning. Frédéric was able to find the first sponsors and so NAG started with a few of the kids he had introduced to Nicole in October 1992.

Here are some other things about Frédéric that Nicole remembers about him: when Nicole met him, he was into Bouddhisum, spoke 9 languages, worked as a nuclear physicist, had worked on CERN’s collider project and was a professor of science at a French university. His passion was seismology, and he advised the French and in particular the Nepali governments in this respect. In March 2015, he had warned NAG that there was a big earthquake happening soon, so when the April 2015 earthquake hit, NAG was prepared and could even help others.

Frédéric is remembered for his unwavering optimism but also for his wicked humour and a quick temper. NAG was so privileged to be amongst the few with whom he shared his ideas and life with. NAG was his second home, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the honour of knowing him.

Thank you Frédéric, Sir, for your unwavering dedication and a lifetime of service to NAG – Dhanyabad!
