A little summer greeting from NAG – enjoy reading.

News from Kathmandu

Only a few months have passed since our annual letter and yet we could write pages of stories from NAG again. We would therefore be delighted to welcome you to our Facebook page or Instagram account. You can find more detailed and up-to-date information and pictures on these channels. Just click on the links below and immerse yourself in the wonderful, colorful and exciting world of NAG.

On this year’s “Admission Day”, which took place on April 23, we were able to welcome 24 new children to NAG. We wish them much joy and success in learning at our innovative school and hope that their future will be as promising as that of Sarmila, Monica and Sony. Sarmila Shrestha and Monica Limbu have completed their training as physiotherapists and are now looking for a job. Sony Sherpa, who has completed her law degree, is doing an internship at the Ministry of Education. It makes us proud to see how our NAG children are making their way into the future!

Over the past six months, our NAGers have been able to learn a lot of new content in the areas of science and technology at school. Our dedicated teacher, Buddha Lama, who grew up at NAG himself, has taken on the task of teaching so-called STEAM content. STEAM stands for “Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics”. The pupils work on small projects, build their own small, simple robots, learn to work with a microscope, can program small programs or build their own closed circuit.

Our major “Teacher Training” project has already been attended by 72 teachers from various schools this year. In addition, 17 head teachers from the Kalikot area attended the teacher training with Manjita and Jessica in mid-May. They in turn will take what they have learned back to their schools, which is very promising. Our eleven NAG graduates, who attended courses in pedagogy during the last school year, left for our partner schools in Kalikot a few days ago. We hope that they will have a successful and exciting five weeks there!

In April, we had the premiere of a young influencer’s visit to NAG. “Franny” from Switzerland loves dancing and has rehearsed a dance choreography with some of the children. She wants to use her video on YouTube to raise money to finance a new dance room for NAG. We are looking forward to it!

News from Switzerland

YB sponsors football pitch for NAG children

We are also very happy about the new football pitch for our children. Thanks to the uniquely large donation from the Bernese football club Young Boys, we were able to completely renovate the old, ageing football pitch in our boys’ dormitory. Now the football pitch has a roof and our children can play football even during the rainy monsoon. Playing football not only promotes the physical health of our children, but also their social skills and strengthens their self-confidence. Children with a difficult past can forget their traumatic experiences for a few moments while playing football.

A big thank you to the Bernese football club YB!

NAG Event

Nothing is as constant as change.

So the presentation of our traditional NAG event is also changing. Whether it will be partly online or not, with a podcast or not, is still being clarified. But one thing is certain: it will take place again on March 30, 2025, so make sure you save the date now. We look forward to seeing you there!
